Geography Week in Year 5

This week Year 5 have learned about Japan and some of the natural disasters that it is prone to. Unfortunately, Japan is located in the Ring of Fire so experiences many earthquakes every year. Because of this, the buildings that are constructed need to be able to withstand an earthquake as much as possible. Year 5 were given the task of designing and building a structure that might withstand an earthquake (shaking the table that the structure is on) using cocktail sticks and sweets. They worked brilliantly in their groups and each group devised a different design.

This week the children have also undertaken some fieldwork activities. They compared the noise level of the playground to Lee high Road and counted the different vehicles and animals that they could hear. Finally they constructed bar graphs to show their data.
